project evaluation

What was the theme for the project?
the theme was a twist between a normal well-known story and was made into a horror ending
How have you developed your ideas? How did your work change through the project?
I started off as  the small individual drawings and then scanned them into Photoshop and made layers to add more detail, and kept adding photos on, also researching the story gave me ideas to do and so i could add more on the book cover.
How much reference material did you find? Do you think you should have done more or less?
i think i should have done more reference materials, because i ended up using other peoples resources.
What artists or designers have you looked at to help and inspire you?
non particular, but i had some inspirations from Scott Campbell  as it showed me how to use paint in lighter and dark tones to make it look effective.
What materials, tools and techniques did these artists use?
paint (gouache)
How have your skills developed during the project?
Yes, i think so because i know now a wider range of materials to use and how to use other materials, but I'm improving my skills working on the computer and working with photoshop to add detail to the book cover.
Are there any aspects of your studies that you wish you had explored further?
no not really, but i would of liked to maybe do more studies with graphite as i was away a lesson and i didn't get to draw the wolf in graphite.
How have you used formal elements such as line, tone, colour and shape?
i have used colour on my book cover, i  have used shape when i drew my wolves and i have also used tone when drawing my charcoal wolf.                                                                                                                What materials did you use, and why? Did they work successfully?

I have mainly used Photoshop for my cover to add effects, i have also used the histogram to change the saturation. Throughout the project i have used various materials to give me a wider view of techniques to choose from such as working with: charcoal,print-screening, ink, graphite. I think they ink worked successfully because i was able to make it look effective because i drew trees,it made it look better by using ink. I also found charcoal successful because i was able to smudge it and make the wolf look scary and rough, but it was messy and it ended up smudging everywhere. What meaning and messages did you want to convey and were you successful?
i wanted mine to look cartoony and cute and fun, but as you turn to the back it becomes a horror as it has blood spatters, so the meaning is a mixture of both to make it look more effective. Are you happy with your final piece? Are there any elements you like in particular?
yes i am happy with my final piece, although it's simple,it looks effective because of the contrast between a cute girl on the front and then on the back it has blood splatters, it makes it more interesting  and i like the way it does that .
Is there anything you would change? Why?
no i don't think so, but i would maybe change the blurb so that it's not that squished. Also the font down the margin to make it more bold and eye-catchy.
